Call To Action Basics For Health Practitioner Blogs
A question that has come up recently is about using a call to action in blogs and other content. Many practitioners struggle with what to do and how to phrase it. So let's have a closer look at the call to action as a tool for your business.
What is a call to action?
Put simply, a call to action is when you invite a reader to take action. Many people think of these as only links to paid work. However, there are many ways you can call a reader to action, as we'll explore below.
Why is it important?
Every reader you have is a potential relationship. And in a relationship, someone needs to take action to get things started. You want your readers to be the ones to take that step. So a call to action is you giving them an option to take that action, and take your relationship to the next level.
Some people just let people come to them. But that means they miss out on the chance to start new relationships with casual readers.
Isn't it pushy and sleazy?
Truthfully - the wrong call to action can come across like this. But we'll make sure that yours isn't that.
Instead of a sale or a marketing tactic, I like to think of it as an offer. An offer is something you put out there in case it's right for someone - but if it's not, that's ok too.
If you take it from this perspective, it will never be pushy or sleazy - just a genuine form of sharing.
To keep it genuine, try these tips:
Write it as if you would speak it out loud to a potentially interested party
Skip the extremes - these sound salesy. 'Always', 'never', 'forever' all come up in scammy Facebook ads, so why would you want them in your copy?
Be genuine and honest about what you are offering. Don't make claims you can't stand behind!
Take notes on the ads you do like and don't like. Which words appeal to you? Which repel you? Tweak your own writing accordingly
Types of CTAs to use in your content
There are plenty of ways to get someone to take action. Most people just use their booking page - but that's not always the most suitable option. So here are a few ways you can call someone to action at the end of a post:
A sign-up for your newsletter
A link to a related piece of content
Links to your social media pages to continue the conversation
A link to your booking page
A link to your services information
Links to any freebies you have on your site
A link to your contact page
Asking them to comment below and answer a question e.g. what is your favourite way to use turmeric?
A call to share the blog with those who might benefit
A call to action doesn't need to be hard!
If you're really struggling to know what to offer, think about what you're writing about.
If you were someone who was interested in reading about it, which call to action would also interest you? Is it another blog on a related topic? Would you be interested in seeing a practitioner about it? Or would you love a freebie with more info?
If you think about it from your ideal client's point of view, it's simple.
