My Big Brave Biz Goals For 2021 And How I’ll Achieve Them
New year, new goals - that’s how it goes, right?
With last year being… well.. Melbourne in 2020, I can confirm that it did not go to plan.
But even with uncertainty still rife here, I’m ready to declare some big goals.
Now I frikkin love hearing about other people’s big scary goals.
So just in case you’re the same, I thought I would share what my goals are for 2021 and how I’m going to make them happen.
My goal setting ‘type’
I want to preface this by addressing this important point.
Different people respond to different types of goal-setting. Some jump at the chance to set huge almost-unachievable goals because it pushes them to stretch further. Others get down on themselves if they don’t hit a goal, so they’re better off setting goals that are just past the ‘comfort zone’.
I used to be the latter, but now I fall firmly in the former group. That’s why my goals are big, scary and make me feel slightly sick to consider. If that’s not a fit for you, feel free to tone yours down.
My 2021 theme
Usually, I pick one theme for a year. In fact, in previous years I’ve even bought necklaces with my word or phrase on it and worn it daily!
This time around, I’m feeling a little bit overwhelmed at how to incorporate everything into one word. Some of the words and phrases I came up with included grow and thrive, abundance and adventure, next level… but none were a perfect fit.
So instead, I’m picking one per month. So far, I have:
January - Baby steps
February - Build the foundations
March - less consumption, more creation - I have some time off to create some programs, trainings and courses over this time
When I get to the end of the first quarter, I’ll pick some new words/mantras. That way, I’m constantly tweaking my focus to move towards my goals!
Now with these in mind, let’s take a closer look at my actual goals.
Financial goals
$250,000 income
Why? Because based on the math I did, this is the income that will get me back on track for my various other goals that went off-track in 2020.
It’s also consistent when I look at the income ratio I achieved last year despite being at a very low physical and mental capacity. If I can go from 20-30% to 70-80% for this year, it will be a breeze.
How? A few key steps:
VIP client slot all booked up - varies depending on their package, but this works out to around $80-90K over the year.
Courses and masterclasses - $30K across the options, including 2 x live rounds of my Marketing 101 course
Longer-term programs - $60K for 2 booked-out rounds of a 3-month program
DIY templates - Coming soon! $30K estimate for this, but prices and goals are still being finalised
The remainder will add up between affiliate income, collaborations, nutrition work and custom jobs
Business goals
Serve 1000 practitioners with courses, programs and masterclasses
Why? Because if I can help 1000 practitioners reach at least 100 clients/customers, that means 100,000 people will take a step towards being healthier and happier. That’s a big part of my why!
How? Thankfully I have a headstart on this one - I’m running a masterclass for NatEx2021 in Feb. That will get me about 1/3rd of the way to this goal.
Otherwise, I have time off in March to create additional courses and training. I also have some collaborations under construction to serve the local Melbournian practitioners. Watch this space!
Work a 20-30 hour workweek consistently
Why? Because my biz is there to work around my life and my health - not the other way around. I work best when I work short focused bursts followed by downtime.
How? A cap on my VIP work and custom projects, and focusing on growing my 1-to-many offerings instead.
Plus working on that pesky money block of more money = more work! It’s the opposite Sam, get that through your head already.
1-2 further education/development focuses per quarter
Why? Because overcommitting and overwhelming myself is a common pattern. I geek out over learning and growing, but I’m only human and can’t do it all at once.
How? Plan them in advance. For example, this quarter I have Vitae Mosaic and working with Karlie Mckeand in a NER money mastermind. Everything else can wait until Q2 and beyond!
Personal goals
I know it’s weird adding my personal goals to a biz goals blog. But at the end of the day, my business is not just to serve my community. It’s also there to serve my life outside of the biz!
$50,000 towards a house deposit
Why? Because the rent game sucks, and my partner and I want a house before we start making bebes!
How? By hitting my income goals and saving 50%+ of my take-home pay
Fortnightly healthcare appointments
Why? Because my biz and my future rely on my body and mind being functional. I manage a chronic genetic condition, and I cannot do it alone!
How? Book them in, purchase packages whenever I can. Of course, this one may vary based on restrictions if they return. But I’m still happy if I tick this off for 75% of the year.
Other ways I’m staying on track
Each of these has a ‘how’ - but there are also some overall ways I will keep myself focused:
Accountability with my crew - I have a group of amazing practitioner friends who are also in a growth phase of business. These people know my goals and I can talk it through with them regularly.
Checking in regularly - It’s great to set goals, but you also want to check the progress of them! That’s why I have various ways to see if I’m achieving the goals over time.
Knowing my important tasks - This is something I learned multiple times last year. I have several to-dos that can drop if lockdown comes back in, and I know my income-generating tasks.
If I need to reduce the energy I’m putting into my biz, I know exactly how to do that without dropping the focus on my goals.
So what can you take away from this?
Know your goal-setting preference, and set them accordingly
Be clear on your how and your why for every single goal - but also remember that the how can change if needed!
If you set goals that rely on others, you can’t guarantee that you’ll reach them. Make sure that you also include goals that rely on YOU - such as how you show up and market yourself, what you’ll learn, and how you practice self-care.
Surround yourself with like-minded people who can keep you focused and on track.
